Catalogue no: QT111 | ISMN 979-0-708-08611-6
An exciting and evocative quintet, suitable for both professionals and amateurs, conjuring up the rhythms and movement of a colourful train journey.
WIND QUINTET
This five-minute work is aimed at Grade 6-8-level players and would be an enjoyable challenge for advanced students or amateur musicians. Harris writes, 'Train Music is more an "impression" than a depiction,' but the music does have a programmatic feel, with a brief accelerando passage as the train gets going. The piece opening with a stately Maestoso section featuring the bassoon,
followed by a rhythmically-irregular Allegro Spritoso that eventually settles into &. The irregular rhythms are probably the most difficult work, and the flute in particular has some tricky legato leaps to negotiate. An energetic ensemble will relish these challenges, which, as ever with and appropriate within the musical context. Overall, the piece can be thoroughly recommended for its educational value, musical content and usefulness as a concert item.
