VIOLIN DUET
I always feel that one cannot have
enough duets in the school bag, so
these easy duets were immediately
attractive to me.
Both parts being equally simple and
sounding beautiful together, they are
useful for sight-reading and endorsing
other work such as a sense of pulse as
well as being pleasurable. However,
based on names, the collection
doesn't always sit comfortably since
the names are a bit retro - 'Archibald',
'Belladonna' etc. Also, it isn't always
clear how the name has inspired the
rhythm. In the first piece "Ar-chi' is
written out to match the first two notes,
but in subsequent pieces the players
are left to their own devices to
understand how the rhythm connects
to the name inspiring the tune.
