Written in June 1940, this is the first published edition of a very popular and much loved Arnold work. It is at once entertaining, thoughtful, exciting, witty and extremely clever.. Audiences will love it. An alternative clarinet part (replacing the oboe part) is included.
Flute, Oboe (or Clarinet in Bb) & Piano
1 Prelude
2 Tango (Elaine)
3 Dance
4 Ballad
5 Valse (Ugo)
The Suite Bourgeoise was composed in 1940 and, having been
lost for many years, it re-surfaced in 1996 and is published here for
the first time. In five movements we hear all the melodic inventive-
ness, colour and exuberance that characterises so much of
Malcolm Arnold's music. After a Tango and lively Dance. A tuneful Ballad,
marked "with great feeling and tenderness',
precedes a delightful Valse to end the work in a sparkling mood. It's an audience
pleaser and I'm sure that advanced ensembles will want to add this varied, charming and
attractive work to their repertoire.
Sheet Music
Written in 1940, this I published for the first time and shows Arnold at his most delightful. It was his first work written for wind instruments and is an eclectic work, using many of the musical styles of the time; popular dance music, allusion to Les Six and more than a passing nod to Constant Lambert.
