Clarinet Quintet
Composer: Gaetono Donizetti
Arranger: Robert Secret
Editor: Paul Harris
Catalogue no: QT219
The Donizetti Clarinet Concertino (c1816) has now become quite well known to both players and audiences. Interestingly, all of Donizetti’s wind concertinos (for flute, oboe, cor anglais and clarinet) have had to be reconstructed in one way or another as none were fully completed by the composer. Clarinettists are grateful to the Swiss musicologist Raymond Meylan who made the original reconstruction in the 1970s. The work has been published a number of times since then.
This publication makes the work available, for the first time, as a quintet for a number of reasons. Firstly, there would be more opportunities to play it given the smaller number of performers required; the intimacy of the music itself makes it ideal as a quintet and this arrangement provides another work to add to the wonderful but slightly limited clarinet quintet repertoire.
