Composer: Jeffery Wilson
Catalogue no: QT115 | ISMN 979-0-708-08615-4
Three engaging and audience-friendly pieces for two clarinets & bass clarinet, or two clarinets and bassoon. If you need something to complement the Mozart trios for the same combination, here's your piece!
CLARINET TRIO, TWO CLARINETS & BASSOON
Rag offers a lively start to the suite, with all
bringing freshness to a much used form.
instruments initiallv in unison before breaking
Romance offers a sense of calm, contrasting
away. The melodic lines are then passed around,
the low sonorities of the bass with the higher
ensuring that each player has something
espressivo clarinet melody. It cleverly echoes
interesting to do and that the listener is alwavs
ragtime rhythms to add a sense of continuity
kept on their toes. The results of these musical
from the first movement.
The closing Rondo is a real rhythmic
showpiece. The parts weave in and out of each
other at an amazing rate - and the faster you
can play this, the more stunning the results. The
frequent cross-rhythms create a sense of urgency,
and the Morse Code accompaniment figures
enhance this further still. Technicallv this is the
trickiest movement of the three, both in terms of
ensemble playing as well as individual parts, but
time spent learning and rehearsing it will most
definitely be well rewarded.
I would highly recommend The Three 'R's.
There is plenty to enjoy for a chamber group
ofabout Grade 6 standard, and lots to learn
from the interplay required between musicians.
Additionally, the three movements would
also work well in a recital programme, either
individually or as a complete set.
