Overture for Wind Octet
Composer: Sir Malcolm Arnold
Catalogue no: QT69 | ISMN 979-0-708-01569-7
Unpublished for over sixty years, this typically characterful work is very much in the style of Sir Malcolm's great film scores of the fifties and sixties.
WIND OCTET
Malcolm Arnold's Overture for Wind Octet (standard instrumenta-
tion, as the Mozart Eb) is a delightful early work, full of Arnold's zest
for life, with jazz- and ragtime-influenced rhythms and bright
attractive melodic fragments, and is highly recommended for student
and professional performance. Players of Grade 7 standard will be
able to give a good performance, and the work is short and easily
programmable. Arnold himself only completed the first 31 bars of the
work, returning later to finish it, albeit in short score - Uwe Radok has
successfully finished the task in appropriate style. Queen's Temple
Publications are to be congratulated on continuing to unearth
forgotten Arnold works and making them available to musicians.
Queen's Temple Publications was founded in 1995 to make available interesting and useful wind chamber music, such as Sir Malcolm Arnold's important Wind Quintet Op. 2. Since then we have expanded to include music for piano, guitar, choral music and much more. Our publications have been selected by the major examination boards worldwide.
Our composers also include James Rae, Iain Hamilton, Charles Camilleri, Paul Harris, Timothy Bowers and many others. So if you are looking for fresh and unusual new repertoire, look no further!
Queen's Temple Publications is based in the United Kingdom.
