Frantic Firefly
Composer: John Dankworth
Catalogue no: QT58 | ISMN 979-0-708-01558-1
John Dankworth wrote this gem as a gift for the clarinettist Emma Johnson. It is full of characteristic melody and sumptuous jazz-harmonies. Audience appeal winner.
CLARINET & PIANO
The firefly emits stunning, flashing lights on the wing at night and
here the clarinet depicts his frantic flight in only a few minutes of
music. A presto section of light staccato movement starts and ends
the piece with a slow, legato and cantabile section in blues style in
the middle. Grade 7 - 8 players should have the technique to
perform it but top A appears twice and it does need to be played
presto with great ease, fluency and panache. A lovely piece for an
encore or in a concert for children.
Association of Wind Teachers
Queen's Temple Publications was founded in 1995 to make available interesting and useful wind chamber music, such as Sir Malcolm Arnold's important Wind Quintet Op. 2. Since then we have expanded to include music for piano, guitar, choral music and much more. Our publications have been selected by the major examination boards worldwide.
Our composers also include James Rae, Iain Hamilton, Charles Camilleri, Paul Harris, Timothy Bowers and many others. So if you are looking for fresh and unusual new repertoire, look no further!
