An arrangement for wind quintet from an early piano piece. Quintessential Arnold!
Wind Quintet - Flute, Oboe, Clarinet Bb, Horn & Bassoon
Paul Harris' arrangement of Malcolm Arnold's Dream City for
wind quintet is a delightful vignette. The slowly unfolding melody,
on the flute for the most part, is supported by gentle, very
soft chording. Again, this is an ideal vehicle for training ensemble
entries, listening, and in particular, soft controlled playing.
The balance between instruments is worth working at, and there
is nothing too technically tricky - well, some soft low notes on
oboe, but not lower than Db. Paul Harris has adapted this piece
very successfully, obviously having in mind Arnold's great skill
as a wind writer. The standard is about grade 5-6, so this is an
ideal training ground piece for wind quintet. Also reasonably
