Association of Wind Teachers magazine
Written for clarinet duet, this short work is among a number of
significant pieces for the instrument by Arnold including two
concertos, an unaccompanied work and his Sonatina. The
Divertimento was written in 1988 and consists of six brief movements, each of which contains a distinct character of its own.
There are moments of lyricism and rhythmic energy in equal
measure as well as some technically challenging sections, which
together make this a pleasing and playable work.
